What advice would you give HS students in HOSA today?
The memories I made by going to nationals have stuck with me into my adulthood. I remember feeling so exhilarated being surrounded by people who were interested in the same things as me. Meeting students from around the country was a blast, and getting to represent my state there was such an honor (plus, trading pins was super fun!). Be proud of where you're from and find ways to connect with people from different places. You never know when you'll overlap down the road.
How did HOSA help you get to where you are today?
When I started college, I was studying biology and psychology. Although I pivoted away from healthcare in my career, the professional skills, connections, and leadership opportunities I gained through HOSA have set me up for success. The speech and debate events I did in HOSA directly connect to the work I do today and gave me confidence in myself as a speaker and communicator.
What are you doing now?
I work at a public affairs agency helping cities and school districts fund projects, informing voters about ballot initiatives, and providing strategic communications to organizations and companies. Before this, I worked in state government relations, advocating for our clients to legislators and government entities. I am loving life in Minneapolis and love visiting my family back in South Dakota!
